Der Dialog zeigt die Formulierungen dafür ("Would you be able to offer us …", "Let's meet in the middle", "Five per cent is difficult, I'm afraid") und nebenbei die klassische deutsche Falle: eventuell heißt possibly, nicht eventually. Emma: Good morning, Emma Collins speaking, Nordpack sales. How can I help you?

Markus: Good morning, Emma. This is Markus Brandt from Hansen Electronics. I'm calling about our new order — the five hundred packaging units for the autumn production. We've just signed off our autumn planning, so the volumes are fixed. Before we confirm the order, I'd like to talk about the price.

Emma: Of course. Your quote is one euro forty per unit — the same price as your last order in spring. That price already includes standard delivery to your warehouse.

Markus: That's right. But we've been a loyal customer for three years now, and this order is twenty per cent larger than usual. Would you be able to offer us a small discount?

Emma: I understand, and we really value your business, Markus. You have always paid on time, and that counts for a lot. How much did you have in mind?

Markus: We were hoping for five per cent on this order. To be honest, that would simply bring you level with the other quotes on my desk.

Emma: Five per cent is difficult, I'm afraid. Our material costs went up in January, and our margins are quite tight at the moment. What I could offer you is two per cent.

Markus: Let's meet in the middle — three per cent, and in return we pay the invoice within fourteen days instead of thirty. And we could eventually increase our order volume next quarter.

Emma: Eventually? Do you mean at some point in the future — or that you might increase it?

Markus: Sorry — I mean possibly. In German, “eventuell” means possibly, not eventually. We are still planning next quarter, so nothing is fixed yet.

Emma: Thank you for clarifying — that little word causes confusion all the time. All right: three per cent with payment within fourteen days works for me. I'll update the quote and send it over today. Shall I also include the delivery dates for the first two batches?

Markus: Yes, please — that saves us another phone call. As soon as we receive the updated quote, we'll confirm the order straight away, and please show the three per cent clearly, so our accounting team sees it immediately.

Emma: Wonderful. Always a pleasure doing business with you, Markus. Speak soon.
