Advanced English Test

Question 1 / 20

Multiple Choice

Hardly ___ the meeting when the fire alarm went off.

What does English level C1 mean?

C1 stands for proficient language use in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). At C1 you understand demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning. You speak fluently and spontaneously without obviously searching for words, and you use English effectively at work — in negotiations, presentations and complex professional discussions.

This C1 placement test is for advanced learners who want to check whether they have reached the upper level — for example before an executive or presentation training course. The test has 20 questions, is free, requires no registration, and shows your result immediately.

After the test you will know exactly where you stand: Simmonds Language Services has offered Business English courses with native-speaking trainers since 2004, online and in person in Hannover and Berlin.
